Between 2017-2018 school year and 2018-2019 at Conant High School district there has been many changes including the cut of two full time custodians has an impact on teachers students and especially the the current custodians.
“There is much more area to clean per custodian,” says Tim Weston, a full time day custodian at Conant High School.
This wasn’t the only change that happened but this seems to have the biggest impact on most of us.
“Too many changes too quick,” Weston says.
Teachers have also noticed this change.Their rooms haven’t been as kept on as they were before. They see custodians trying to keep up to fill the void.
A teacher who wants to remain anonymous in fear of retaliation from administration says, “ I have noticed the janitors have been running around trying their best to make it seem as if there wasn’t a change.”
Although most students didn’t even know there was a loss of two custodians, there has been some recognition of this change and noticing the cleanliness in classrooms from students.
Kyle Gallagher, a senior at Conant High School says, “ I did not know there was a loss or cut of the custodians until today but I have noticed the classrooms have not been as clean as they were last year, especially the floors.”
This may have a bigger impact on the people noticing it but it’s not all negative for the current custodians. They now have more power to do things on their own instead of being told what to do.Weston says, “ We have more authority and can look on the computer to see what is needed instead of having a meeting on what each of us has to do.”
